24k Gold Kintsugi Chawan
This exceptional matcha bowl has been meticulously restored using the traditional Japanese technique of kintsugi, an art form that honors breakage as part of an object’s history. The repair has been carried out with great care, patience, and precision—each gold seam purposefully applied to reveal, rather than conceal, the bowl’s unique fractures.
Crafted from ceramic with a rich surface texture and subtle color variations, the bowl’s character is further enhanced by the luminous lines of genuine 24k gold. This contrast between refined gold and earthy ceramic creates a compelling visual harmony, transforming a once-damaged vessel into a singular work of art.
A true collector’s piece, this chawan embodies the principles of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection and transience. Both functional and deeply expressive, it offers aesthetic depth and cultural resonance for any collection of Japanese tea ware or kintsugi art.

I use only traditional kintsugi techniques (no epoxy and mica powder); natural urushi lacquers are cured in a muro box and 24k gold for food vessels, both of which are food safe. I also use genuine silver, copper and brass (as well as gold) for repairs not being used for food or drink. All vessels in my shop (matcha bowl, tea cup/pot, Ikebana/vase, mugs, tumblers etc.) have been tested for water fastness.
