24k Gold Vintage Kintsugi Chawan

$340.00

This unique and beautiful vintage ceramic matcha bowl has been thoughtfully restored using the traditional Japanese art of Kintsugi. Dating from the 1960s, the bowl’s maker is unknown, but its age and craftsmanship speak to a quiet elegance rooted in tradition.

The Kintsugi repair, carried out with great care, patience, and precision, highlights the bowl’s cracks and imperfections—enhancing its character rather than concealing its history. Genuine 24k gold traces now accent the surface, adding a refined contrast to the ceramic form.

A one-of-a-kind piece, this chawan offers understated beauty and timeless appeal. Perfect for those who appreciate the charm of vintage handmade pottery, it will bring a sense of elegance and depth to any tea-drinking experience.

The repair has been carried out with exceptional care, patience, and precision. I use only traditional kintsugi techniques (no epoxy and mica powder); natural urushi lacquers are cured in a muro box and 24k gold for food vessels, both of which are food safe. I also use genuine silver, copper and brass (as well as gold) for repairs not being used for food or drink. All vessels in my shop (matcha bowl, tea cup/pot, Ikebana/vase, mugs, tumblers etc.) have been tested for water fastness.
